How Does One Deal with TRAVEL?!

For the last 2 weeks, the Low Sodium Queen has been immersed in business travel, and it has not been pretty!!  It doesn't help that she traveled to South Louisiana, where the food is delicious, fatty, and salty!


Really, how do you stick to a low salt diet when travelling?  The Queen hopes to get some advice in the comments here, since she finds it extremely difficult!


Think about it.


Breakfast:
Eggs? they'll be cooked with salt in most cases
Bacon? Sausage? Ham?- Hell no!
Cereal?- most are loaded with salt!
Not to mention the fat inherent in all of these foods!


Lunch:
Fast food?  -no way!
Salad?- the dressing will contain your daily intake!
Frozen entree or can of soup?- read the label! Definite no no!


Dinner:
Impossible!


Any advice?

  1. other than bringing your own food which is an entirely new hassle unto itself, i have no clue what to do. maybe we need to start demanding better of the airline industry- considering the amount folks pay to fly you'd think they'd have top chef in the kitchen all the time.

  2. For breakfast I tend to stick with boiled eggs and fresh fruit these days. The salad solution is oil and vinegar instead of salad dressing. A pizza chain out here has a great salad bar and this has saved me many a lunch time.

  3. Breakfast - workout first thing, then OJ.

    Lunch - salad and soup.

    Dinner - indulge.
